drive or walk along Canal Street (“TV Alley”) downtown and look for wireless signals in front of Marriot and Sheraton hotels. Best Western had the best signal but then it wasn’t connecting; maybe it is again. also many private homes have perfectly working land lines to do dial-up connections.

if all, all else fails go across the lake (both causeways are open) or back towards baton rouge till you find a starbucks or fedex/kinko or another hotel.

Soory, I can’t be of much help. Altho I normally live and work out of NOLA, I’ve been evacuated twice; first from NOLA and then from Lake Charles. At this point, I’m in Mountain Home, Arkansas — too far away to do much good.

Like Alan said, media alley is your best bet.  I was able to get the best reception sitting on the steps of the Sheraton Hotel there.  It’s the step to the right of building if you are facing it.  This information is rather old though, since I haven’t been back for 3 weeks.  I hope scott can find a signal there.

I couldn’t get a signal in the lobby of the sheraton but there is a little media center on the fifth floor with extenseion cords and a good wireless signal.
