I’m currently taking applications for The General Store Gallery and Residency Program for the summer of 2007. The General Store is a non profit arts organization that was created by David Buckley in 2005 to give artists, musicians, writers and performers of all genres the opportunity complete and show a project of their choice.
Residencies will be in two sessions. Session I is from the beginning of June through the middle of July and Session II is from the middle of July through the end of August. If either of these sessions are inconvenient, please free to make a request for alternate dates and durations throughout the season, and we will try to accommodate all requests as best we can.
Each recipient will receive room and board, work space and a gallery show at the end of their residence, in exchange for working 15 hours a week on the gallery, studios or house. Materials for the project and transportation to and from the program are not included.
The General Store is located in Elk Horn, Iowa. A small town about an hour from Omaha, Nebraska and DesMoines, Iowa. We currently have a 2500 sq ft Gallery and performance space, and another 2500 sq ft of studios and work space converted from the town’s old general store. Another 3000 sq ft of work space still needs to be built up. There are 15 acres of land to be used for for outdoor installations or performances.
If your are interested in applying to the General Stare for this Summer, please send a project proposal, resume, and up to 10 examples of your work by March 1st. The proposal should be a half a page to a page describing the project you would like to do, when and for how long you would like to come for, and what sorts of resources, tools and materials you would need.
Proposals and resumes should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org and examples of work can either be emailed or linked via website. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, and I will be happy to answer them.
