NIKON D 200 -MICRO DRIVE ?

Friends,

Steer well clear of Micro Drives. They have tiny moving parts and can get damaged easilly. The solid state CF cards are the only way to go. There is a lot of hard selling going on of Micro Drives now that Compact Flash cards have come down in price so much recently. Pay them no heed.

I got a D200 last week. It’s superb. I feel like a fool for having waited so long. Now I can shoot raw exclusively. However, I do need to get lots more CF cards.

I do not have Micro Drives nor do any pro shooters I know. It’s just too risky. Micro Drives have a use, just not in cameras.

There was a time where Microdrives were a better deal than solid state compact flash cards. Back then, 1Gig Microdrives were only about $350 and were much faster than the compact flash 1Gig cards that cost $1000. Now they are not only more expensive but much slower than compact flash. Microdrives are much more fragile and use more battery power than compact flash. Considering that you can get 2Gig Sandisk Ultra II compact flash cards for $40USD these days it’s pointless to use microdrives.

I also read somewhere that microdrives can over heat?!

The mos offendind bit about the microdrives is that if you drop’em once they are gone. CF cards take a beating and keep on working.

Subhamoy,

I have been using a 6GB micro-drive for several months now with no problems (360 RAW files worth of storage.) I also use CF cards and, I agree with the above posts – at this time I would stick with CF cards on the D200.

:)
