<body>Members of Lightstalkers do dangerous work, and sometimes die in the field.

We're asked in these cases if we can set up &quot;memorial&quot; pages, which would seems like a good, decent thing to do. It's a little difficult. On a practical level, we want to somehow confirm that a member is actually passed, to prevent pranks. On principle, we want their family's blessing. This is delicate and complex, which means we really can't afford to pursue it thoroughly&#8230; and we'd have to pursue it, because families don't come to us with this stuff.

In the end, it seems that there's little we can do, responsibly. If a family comes to us with a request, we'll try to oblige -- but trying to be proactive on this would be foolhardy. As a consequence, our informal policy is to not try to do anything special.

(We have one exception so far. Last year, Lightstalkers member Ajmal Nakshbandi was first taken hostage, then killed, in Afghanistan. Ajmal was an early user of Lightstalkers, and a friend. When he and two colleagues were taken hostage, we organized an awareness campaign to fight for his release; this campaign, sadly, became a memorial.)

We'd like to be able to do something, and are working on the problem. What would you want done?</body>
