Aug 27 – Sept 11
I might be game for a week or so.
|
Hi! Thanks for the reply guys! Perpignan runs for 2 weeks, from August 27th (Sat) through Sept. 11th (Sun). Of course I am not planning on spending 2 weeks there. One week tops. I am trying to figure out what are the best dates to go (assuming staying over the weekend, mostlikely the send weekend). Anyone has ideas? Cheeper the better for me… I don’t mind sleeping on floor etc..

Check the Visa Pour L’Image website. The best week to go is "professional week". It usually starts two or three days after the festival officially begins, and lasts about 7 days. It’s not exact. The professional week is when the outdoor slideshows happen, and when most of editors are around. Also, the Perpignan Chamber of Commerce (link on the Visa website) is very helpful finding accomodations and houses to rent from locals who take off to escape us.

Thanks, Stefan! I checked out their site, and outdoor slide shows are from August 29 through Sept. 3rd. And the symposium is on the 1st and 2nd of Sept. So to me, looks like the first week is the better week to go? What do you think, folks? I am very clean person (take shower everyday) and, do not snoore.

First week sounds right to me. Don’t think I’m going to make it this year, tho. Don’t forget to stick around for the awards night, whichever night that is.

Jiro, the slide show nights, august 29th to sept 3rd are the days to go…the first two or three nights are a little slower, there’s a big party on the last night, smaller ones leading up to it. those are the days you’ll run into half the people you’ve met in strange places across the world for the past decade. september 4th, there is a giant journalist sucking sound going south towards barcelona (or north towards paris).
|
Giant Journalist sucking sound? Nice, really nice. Are you thinking about going Teru?

Jiro— If I get the time off I am there. I’ve planned to go for the past three years, but something always comes up at the last minute. I talked to Scott when I was in India about trying to share a house or something like that. We’ll see.

I just at the last minute decided to go, and checked the room situation. It seems there are still a couple of rooms left, but I’d decide quickly. I just booked a double, two star, 35 euro’s each per night. (Or 35 for both? Guess I gotta check that…) I’ve never been, looking forward to it!

It’s a good time. Social hub is Le Post by the castle after the shows. I like to arrive a couple days before it gets busy to see the exhibits, then do other things during the week when it gets crowded. Hotels should be hard to find by now. If it’s your first time, prepare for loose edits.

At this point try Mondial Hotel… short walk from the action and relatively cheap, sometimes they have a room this close to the festival:
+33 468 34 23 45
Last time i stayed there their English wasn’t very good… they’ll want a fax to confirm.
|
Hey Jiro,
Sorry for the delay, I{m out of country right now, back in town July 20. I booked a double, and a friend MAY or may NOT be coming, but it could also be possible to get a third in there, perhaps they could throw a cot in or something? I{ve got no problem sharing anything to keep the costs down!
Send me an email at:

I will periodically check my mail until I get home. But yeah, the more the merrier!

Hello me and a friend in Paris are up for sharing a house if anyone has any details. We called the twenty or so hotels listed on the festival website and they are all full. We were planning to go Aug 31- Sep 3 so if anyone has info send me voice quickly!!!
cheers

For the ones that come by car there is not far from Perpignan many campings that rent full equiped kind of bungalows for 5-6 people for around 60 €. don’t remember the name of the one I got last year. But they aren’t generally full and they are 15 to 10 min by car from Perpignan.

I would recomend to rent a car and stay outside the town, and also to try to get a place to stay asap. (us too) It seems more crowdy than last year. If anyone of you guys are interested to meet, (30 – 4) or share a camping space with two other people around perpignan would be great.
From barcelona for example its only two hours by car and there are plenty of small places on the coast to stay on the way to perpignan.
cheers
|
I’m probably gonna go, hopefully to transact a bit o’ business…will look into a hotel tomorrow.
But my stay will be brief, as personally I can’t say I’m too keen on the Perpignan experience…

I’m in Perpignan from 26 to 28 og august
|
Hmm, hard to put my finger on why exactly…a lot of people think Perpignan is the bees knees.
There are some great exhibitions in lovely venues and it’s a good chance to go and make introductions to a lot of potential outlets in one location, so if you go with the right head on, it can be a good place to get things done in a nice location.
There can however be a somewhat cliquey ‘Cannes Film Festival’ vibe that just grates with me a little, thats all…

Perpignan has a number of types that hang out there. You have the established snappers that have made plenty of money, the clueless wannabes, the power-tripping desk jockeys and editors, the old, bitter and jaded types who hate the place but cannot, for some obscure reason stay away (and are usually skint),those who go around sucking up to the stars, the weekend warrior kids with lots of money (trustafarians) and attitude, the clever marketing types who have tons of tact and business acumen and will sneak away with the big deals and indifferent non-snappers like me who go to chase skirt and hang out with old buddies because places like Ibiza,Majorca and Goa etc etc scare the hell out of me. Perpignan is a busman’s holiday to me.
Have I missed anyone Sion?
|
Nope…I’d love to think I’m the ‘tons of tact and business acumen’ variety but in fact fall under the ‘old, bitter, jaded’ category – and am of course, usually skint.
But I can usually stay away for some obscure reason. Only been twice in about eight years.
This time I’m just there for 2 days and that will be enough for me.

correction, Barcelona – Perpignan convoy is leaving Aug 31. probably around noon from the airport. looks like two cars now, open seats in both. give a shout if you need a ride.
|
Yo! I’m in Barca….could use a ride definitely! somebody email me or call carlos@cazalis.org +34 650327257
rock!!
|
I’ll be arriving in Perpignan tomorrow evening so maybe I’ll see the convoy survivors bowl up to the Le Post for refreshments…
My last time at the Le Post I managed to leave all my camera gear under a table in the evening and didn’t find out till I got back to London…the following afternoon.
The manager kept the gear under the bar when a waiter found it while cleaning up…it made it back on another flight.
This time I plan on being a little more er, clear headed.
