Researching old AP photo tags from WW II - Anyone know?

Does anyone know how to interpret old Associated Press photo tags/slugs? If not, does anyone know of any old timers that can?

I ask as I recently acquired WW II Wartime Photo Pool print a refugee camp in Saipan that I’m certain was taken by W. Eugene Smith. This photo is dated 1945, but I know Smith did a story on this same camp 1944. I am trying to crack the codes: “AJE” (maybe news/Japan/?) amd “FLS” (From Life mag. Services?). T

This is a rather an obscure info search, but maybe someone out there use to read these tags as an editor?
