Fixed again. Does anyone besides me use the RSS feed?
|
Shinji, might want to look at it one more time. I’m not sure what the problem is but http://lightstalkers.org/ls/rss-global.cfm is choking firefox’s and libxml parsers at the moment. Both are giving not-well-formed errors. Here’s firefox’s output:
XML Parsing Error: not well-formed
Location: http://lightstalkers.org/ls/rss-global.cfm
Line Number 541, Column 71:
And yes, I for one will use the RSS feeds. It would be interesting to try adding RSS feeds for people’s galleries with something like pheed.com’s rss module.

Please explain RSS feeds! What are you talking about?
Cheers.

Hi Paul,
RSS is a syndication format based on XML-well it is XML which looks a lot like HTML but is different. RSS lets people publish headlines and description of content about websites-think of it as an AP newswire for a website. You need an RSS reader to take advantage of this, but there are a lot of free or cheap ones available. Rather than check here every so often to see if new content is available in the forum, your RSS reader will do it for you and present you with quick descriptions. It’s a great way to keep track of a lot of websites without having to constantly visit them all. The easiest way to understand it is to go find an RSS reader and try it out. Firefox has one built in. If you are using a Mac NetNewsWire is good and the next version of Safari will have one too.

shinji, because of this site (and a piece i read in the BBC a couple weeks ago), i downloaded firefox (loving it!) — and utilizing its integrated RSS, including that of this site…
|
Hi guys! Thanks for your help fixing up the feed. Also glad to hear that Firefox is working for you Scott! It’s great to see that project finally coming into its own.
Mark — are you using Sage, or are you using the “Live Bookmark” dealie?
|
Shinji,
I’m using a whole assortment of things. It was sage that was giving me trouble-safari also choked on it as did my own app, which is based on the gnome xml library, but everything seems to be working well now. Maybe an illegal character thrown into the mix by one of the posts.

Hi
I’ve just installed Firefox but now have to go out on a shoot. How can I prepare Firefox for RSS feeds, particullarly from Lightstalkers? I’ll play some more with it when I gat back. Any tips would be appreciated.
Cheers.
|
Mark — I added a Live Bookmark (I “live bookmarked”?), and I’m going to keep track of the feed in Sage. I also validated the feed. Do you see any remaining issues? I appreciate your obvious expertise in this.
Hey Paul — I think all you have to do is click on the icon which now appears in the lower-right corner of your Firefox window!
|
Hi Shinji,
Is the RSS feed system down? I wanted to link up to my DRR feed but nothing is coming through.
thanks,
David
|
Hi David — actually, you’re asking about something different. Here we’re talking about the Lightstalkers feed.
If you’re having trouble with the Digital Railroad feed, it’s probably because you’re putting in the RSS address, when you should be putting in the Javascript feed address. If that’s not it, let me know…
|
What response speed are you using? 1/8000th of a sec?
And you were right, I had pasted in the RSS link like an idiot.
However it isn’t working with the JS link (http://www1.davidbrabyn.com//Feeds/SetJsFeedPrefs.aspx?ft=1&id=224338&bwid=753&cdsid=d65bd142-2b13-4f0f-bef7-e892e23af6ae) either.
I don’t have to downsize the images do I? Does the first feed through take a little time?
D.

Heyo — just checked your profile, and it seems to be working ok. Did you get it worked out?
|
RSS feed? Didn’t even know you had one, but I’ll be sure to start using it from now on at MyYahoo.!
Been trying to get one up and running at polo’s bastards, but my CMS makes it a little tricky – had to use the search engine to publish a static page and then get it updated via cronjobs – at least I think that’s what happened in the end after I begged my CMS people for help. Ahh, the joys of internet technology!
|
Ok – where is the RSS feed? Is that a dumb question?
|
My mistake: my omniweb browser was blocking all images from 3rd party websites. Option un-ticked and it is working fine now.
Thanks Shinji.

I’ve been putting in the Javascript feed URL and it’s not working. Any advice?
|
Hi Scott — that’s actually a different thing. Here we’re talking about the RSS feed from Lightstalkers; I think you’re looking at your profile, where you can specify an incoming feed (such as one from a Digital Railroad account). If you’re having trouble with that, send me an email at support@lightstalkers.org so we can troubleshoot it offsite.
