russian photographer in ossetia
|
Here are a set of photos made by a Russian photographer who went in with the Russian forces to Ossetia. A view from the other side as it were. The editor appears to have not done much editing and some of the images are a bit graphic, however these photos add another dimension to the images coming out so far. The intro to the site is in English, but comments in Russian.
“We present a set of photographs from the war in South Osetia made by Arkady Babchenko, one of the editors of Russian war veterans Almanac â€Art of War†(http://www.navoine.ru/). Arkady went with Russian troops on the route Vladikavkaz – Tshinval – Zemo Nikozi – Gori and participated as journalist in the battle for Georgian village Zemo Nikozi. Photographs were prepared and placed in the Internet by Chief Editor of the Almanac Ilya Plekhanov.”

Thanks, Darius, for the link to the images from South Ossetia. We need to know how the things started by the invasion or the attack by the Georgian military there. Here is a chronology of events with respect to South Ossetia which really wanted to be independent like Kosovo. Here is the background information in a narrative form on Alertnet by Reuters Foundation. http://www.alertnet.org
Some of you might be interested in this article by the International Red Cross of the situation in South Ossetia and Georgia on Alertnet where the contact information is given.

I have just read this article titled “US Role in Georgia Crisis Cannot Be Ignored” by Stephen Zunes, analyzing the situation in Georgia including the autonomous regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
