SAT Phones/BGAN
|
Anybody have the latest on sat phones/BGAN . . . anything new worth considering? Is Iridium still the leading sat phone? Anybody have any experience with Globalstar…they’re currently offering a great price on a phone and a year’s service. Any recommendations on service plans for Iridium, especially if it’s only going to be used sporadically (besides renting).
One other question for those who have used both . . . how good is the sat phone for xmitting photos? Obviously slower than BGAN, but is it worth considering?

Where are you planning on using the phone?
|
Worldwide (so Thuraya and Globalstar aren’t options).
Anybody have any experience with the new iSatPhone Pro from Inmarsat?
|
the phone is only for calling not for send data (photos) you need a BGAN !!
Nera Worldpro 1000 is a old and not supported anymore !! and only ISDN USB no ethernet RJ-45 plug (Nera Worldpro 1000) have ethernet RJ-45 plug ! But he is de smallest you can get 800 Gram and the next is the 300 same speed.

Looking at the Wideye Sabre 1 . . . small, still supported.
Any suggestions on finding the best BGAN service plan for occasional use?
|
The Neras aren’t officially supported but the Thrane 100/110 are the same hardware. Pay as you go is the best for occasional usage with 2 year PIN validity but transmission is blocked in the US.

The Thrane web site doesn’t even list the 100/110 any longer. I was told from a reliable dealer that it has been discontinued.
Two-year PIN option would be great if it was usable in the US. Still looking for suggestions on a good (and hopefully not too expensive) service plan.
