SB 600 vs. SB 800
|
So I need to buy a new flash for a number of different reasons, and I have been trying to figure out which of these two Nikon flashes is the best buy. I shoot with a Nikon D1X, and would probably only use the flash mouted on the hotshoe or with a cable. The master/slave stuff is not important to me. I just want a flash that won’t blow out all of my pictures and that I don’t have to constantly struggle with. Does it even exist?
Take care,
Scout

both are excellent flashes. i use the sb600 only because it was cheaper than the sb800. its a relatively simple flash to use as well.

The sb80 DX would work fine with the D1x also . and it ’s a bit stronger than the sb600

The 600 is consistent and gives delicious results. You gotta give it to Nikon when it comes to flash technology. I shoot the D100 with the 600 mounted and through cable using Tokina glass. Yum.

Im a big fan of the 800 becasue It gives you so many options. Like if later on you wanted to use two flashes or make them wireless. Plus the 800 ttl is great.

I love using the 800 to fire off the 600’s remotely. It’s a piece of cake to learn and very easy to control.
|
Just started using the 800, its awsome! I’m really glad I spend the extra $$. The TTL is far better than any other flash I have used. I have had the SB-26,SB-28x, SB 80 DX, and the SB 800 wins hands down in all areas of use. The 600 looks good but is lacking a bit of power and flexability. So I think if you have the extra $$ go for it but if not the 600 is a great choice.
Another plus for the 800 is the fifth battery you can add, the recycle time is sooo fast!!

Is there a big difference between the TTL of the 600 and the 800?
|
I really don’t know, haven’t used the TTL on that the 600 but I would think its the same. Can you rent the two units and test them? If so that would be a great way of figuring out what you need.
