Shooting in Sri Lanka, Tamil areas
|
Hello fellow Lightstalkers,
I’m considering flying to Sri Lanka in the next few months to do a story on the civil war aftermath. I read few articles about the situation since the war ended. Crisis Group claims no journalists nor human rights activists are allowed in the camps where the displaced Tamil are being kept – against the international law. This made an alarm bell ring in my head and now I’m trying to understand how hard it would be to get access to the once Tamil controlled part of the country in the north and to other public facilities, i.e. hospitals, schools, etc. . Any first hand information and suggestion would be very much appreciated.

You will need a J visa for sure, as far as I have heard just to think going up there. Might be wrong though…

Alex is right…
I tried to get one in July (both through a magazine and a NGO) but I was denied it.
Give me a call if you need more info!

Thanks for the replies, I’m afraid though a J visa won’t be enough as of today. It looks like the Tamil areas are still sealed off since the war ended.
Best,
