I’m seeking to reach any Lightstalkers members who might be interested in participating in a new environmental photojournalism award competition worth up to $500 for which the entry deadline is fast approaching.
As part of their 10th Annual Awards Competition, the Society of Environmental Journalists ( http://www.sej.org ) has added photojournalism to the existing awards categories. Since the category has just been created, it has not attracted a great deal of attention in the photojournalism community, and as a result, has received only a modest number of entries, even though it carries a possible first prize of $500. With the entry deadline set for next Monday, April 2nd, you can forward an announcement about this competition to anybody who might be interested in participating.
For a single entry fee, any journalist may enter up to five photographs on one or more environmental topics, published between March 1, 2011 and Feb. 29, 2012. Only photos published as photojournalism that predominantly depict an environmental subject are eligible for the contest. Entered photos must not be manipulated or digitally enhanced in a way that changes the content and/or context of the image. A caption that describes the event or situation captured in the photograph must be included for each photo entered. Photos must be submitted by Monday, April 2nd, 2012 as jpeg files, maximum 2MB.
The entry fee for up to five photos is $40 for current SEJ members and $100 for non-members, but there is also a special $60 Prospective Member Rate for non-members who are joining SEJ for the first time. It covers their first year of membership (discounted) as well as the contest fee.
Additional information can be found at the following SEJ links:
How to Enter: http://www.sej.org/initiatives/awards/instructions
Photo Entry Form: http://www.sej.org/entry-form-photos
If you can disseminate this announcement to any other interested party in a timely way, it will be greatly appreciated. I should add that unless we receive an avalanche of entries within the next seven days, the statistical likelihood of winning an SEJ award is quite possibly much higher than in better-known competitions.
Thanks very much for your attention to this request,
SEJ Photo Editor
