Full and part-time positions are open for P + I graduating seniors and alumni from the classes of 2006-2009 as Teaching Assistants for the Summer High School Program. Students who have taken Community Collaborations are especially encouraged to apply.
The Summer High School Program introduces national and international students to the study of photography in New York City in four weeks. Students earn 6 college credits (4 studio and 2 critical studies) through learning a range of technical skills including both analog and digital; creating work, projects and a portfolio; organizing a public exhibition of their work; studying historical and contemporary photography and art during class lectures, readings and field trips; critiquing work in a group setting; discussing and writing about their work while considering ideas and movements in contemporary photography.
TAs will primarily assist students during working sessions in the labs. TAs with a particular expertise may lead technical demonstrations and/or discussions. TAs will also assist Program Professors with lectures, group critiques, technical demonstrations (such as digital printing, bookmaking, pinhole photography), reading discussions, taking students on field trips and contributing to curriculum development.
Full-time applicants must be available to work 40 hours per week, with evening and/or weekend availability, from July 11 â€“ August 6. They will also be expected to attend several workshop days and meetings (to be scheduled as a group) before and after the session runs. The stipend for full-time positions is $2000, along with some meals, use of the department labs during the summer session, entrance to program-related activities, and a monthly metro card. The stipend for part-time positions is to be determined, according to the schedule of the assistant.
