Thinking of shooting polaroids for new project
|
Has anyone used polaroids for a documentary project? successfully? I am using a super speed graphic, polaroids, and a scanner.

Hi Gilby,
Yes I have. Pretty much the same setup you’re using, too. Except for the lens, which is a aero ektar. The same piece of glass used by David Burnett. Not that I want to copy his style, but I just wanted to use a lens with a very narrow depth of field, without having to fiddle with movements. I use this mostly for portraits. In the field. Totally doable, but a lot of work, if you’re used to digi.

This is part of a series shot for the paper I work for.

I use polaroid in either my 110b 3.25×4.25 or the 110b 4×5, using both 667/672/664 and type 55. If you are having to move aggressively or have limited time to work and move on this is a tough set up, but for portraits or scenic work it is perfect.
cheers.

Thanks. How encouraging. As a citizen shooter, I like how a big camera with bellows tends to defuse/diffuse suspicion- but the freaking cost et al of 4×5 film? So that’s why Im casting about for polaroid tips.

just curious…what happened to his neck ?
fwiw…Polaroid has stopped shipping to Canada and word I’m hearing is not good overall. Don’t fall too in love with type 55.
