too many topics?

Hey Ed and all,

What do you think about getting rid of all the topics that already exist on the regular LS? Don’t think we need them here as well.

I put them all up here so they’re easier to find if someone wants to look up an already archived thread about microphones or recording devices or techniques or whatever. If you try and search ‘multimedia’ on the ‘posts’ search for regular LS then it comes up with 47 or so pages of threads, not all of which are relevant…

Yeah but it seems like you’ve just created subtopics with the same names inside of the New Media group as opposed to having links to those actual subsets as they are on the main page. Whatever I click is completely empty. Whereas if I click it from the main page there’s a bunch of stuff.

I would go with just 4 things: hardware, software, audio and video

Maybe we ask Shinji to have a “search within the group” function?

Ahhh, ok. You mean the ‘keyword’ links at the top of the page, right? I was confused there for a second. Those are the keywords I’ve added to the group’s settings page, and as far as I can tell they link to the posts within this group that also have those keywords. It’s a good idea, Michael, I’ll go and adjust them now.

Also, I’ll send Shinji a PM and hit him up about the ‘search within group’ function.

Ok, so I’ve put up Technique, Hardware, Software for now. I didn’t put up separate ‘audio’ and ‘video’ topics as I think one of the important things to do right now is to work out how to use all of these previously separate media forms together and in the same converged spaces (i.e. here on the web)… so that way any posts on editing and other narrative/technique-related stuff can all be worked out together.

Cool, yeah technique that’s good. I just thought it would be redundant to repeat anything that’s already on the main LS page.`Cheers.
