hi Edwine
well if you arrive at the Tunis airport than go to the Louage station (say it to the taxi driver). from there buy a ticket to Ben Gardane (the nearest city to the refugee camp).
it’s a 6-7 hours trip
when you’re in Ben Gardane go to the Edhiafa Hotel (cheap clean nice people and internet connection)
if you need smth more just ask!
good luck

Hi Guys!
Could anyone please tell me how can I cross the border Tunisia-Libya. Probably from Ben Gardane.
Is there anyone who is controlling passports or visas? I want to get to Tripoli. How could I do that? And..how are the rebels keen on taking journalists to the frontline? Thanks for any information.

@ Blazej Mikula — There’s no way you could get into Libya without a visa.
So first you must ask for a visa to the Libyan government’s Media Office in Tripoli. Ask to the Libyan embassy in the country you are at the moment (if that embassy still works for Tripoli…)
Then Tripoli will (maybe) accept your request and “invite” you to Tripoli. Libyans will arrange vans to pick you and other journos at the Tunisian border and escort you to the Capital. That is the only way. You will be stock with gov’t people all the time and be hosted at a hotel in Tripoli along with all the other int’l press there. There is no other way, I’m afraid. Gaddafi’s gov’t is still in full power in Tripolitania (except in the southern mountains where there is some fighting going on) and in full control of the border crossing and the roads to Tripoli (which are fully spotted of check-points).

Any updated info on the Tunisian border and visa issues? I’m planning on entering Libya by road, and I can’t find reliable information. And the visa issues? Any info would be really helpful! Thanks, Eric
