VICE, Robert King and John McAfee

Everyone here should have heard of the incident in between Vice mag and McAfee, leading to the arrest of the fugitive in Guatemala and his extradition to the U.S.

I’m searching for photojournalists / geodata experts who would be interested in giving me their sights on this affair for a paper for a French journal.
The question I’m asking myself is how somebody as professional and solid as R.King was could make such a mistake ? Or, was this a trap ? If yes, a trap for who ?
