Video Streaming?

Am planning to add a short streaming video clip to my website [ www.blindgrace.com ], but am getting conflicting advice as to which format to use.
I have Final Cut Pro 4.5 and can export in many forms; QuickTime Movie, DV Stream, etc. [though apparently not Sorenson Codec]. Trying for decent image quality with out devouring bandwidth. Any advice?

I know nothing but my friend Dave can probably help you out, though he is a pro. He is here on LS on my list, David Elliot, his sites are pretty cool but they don’t have streaming vid. Check out 123learn.info and patriotyouth.com SECRETly SQUIRREL bait.

QuickTime .mp4 format might work for you. MP4 is widely used for mobile video compression (cell phones, PSP). Upside is small file size/decent quality. Downside is small viewing window. I can point you to some tutorials about converting vids to MP4 if you are interested.

MP4 is one of the many export options I have with Final Cut, but I was also concerned with compatability for both Mac and PC. How small is the window in MP4?

I thought Sorenson was the deal……e-mail Roger Richards, he does the video for the Digital Journalist, he set me up when I produced my piece. Roger is a Lightstalker.

Was just emailed this response and thought I’d post it for others.

good choice on QuickTime. I would not, however, format it as MPEG-4, only
folks with the current verison of the plug-in can use it. Save as a regular .mov
QuickTime file. Are you considering offering it as a progressive download or
as a stream? I am guessing as a progressive download, which begins playing
after some of the video has been downloaded.

Anyway, if you are using FCP HD 4.5 the cleanest codec is Sorenson. You are
outputting from FCP? I recommend a program called Sorenson Squeeze for
stand alone web compression. How it is done is that you export a reference
movie from FCP (highlight the clip or sequence you need in the Browser, then
go to export. save it as a QuickTime movie with all normal settings, but make
sure that box that says ‘make movie self-contained’ is unchecked. This
reference movie can then be imported into Squeeze and then output in a
number of different formats.

Hope this helped :-)
Good luck,
