recently lost the shoe-mounted viewfinder for my 21mm contax g2 lens…thing just fell off in a taxi cab. quite careless i know.
does anyone know where i can get one from without having to buy a whole new lens? contax is caput, b&h is a dead end…….and again, i know i’m an idiot.

I don’t know if you’re going to be able to find the Contax one anymore. But Voightlander makes a nice 21 for Leica M and Screwmount cameras and they offer their finder for a fraction the price of the Contax or Leica one. Here is a link to a US distributor http://www.cameraquest.com/voigtacc.htm it is pretty cheap (about $130 US). jack

As of right now, KEH has two Contax G series 21mm finders in stock… LN- for $179 and EX+for $172. Go http://www.keh.com/ and search in the “camera store” tab and then contax g series under 35mm and then prisims and finders under camera body accesories.

Hey Moises,
I’ve been using the G2 for almost two years now and it is a fanatastic little camera… the autofocus takes a little getting used to, but once you’ve got the hang of it, it’s spot on 95% of the time….. it’s also realtively silent and quick….. the sharpness and color rendition of the lenses is unbelievable…… now I just wish Contax had not gone kaput and left us without the hope of a digital version of this beauty…..

Sumeet, Sony bought out Contax so the dream of a digital G might not be dead just yet. Sony already has a relationship with Carl Zeiss so who knows?

moises-
i have both the contax g1 and g2, the g1 i use as a backup body. in terms of optics, the g2 stunning, and you will pay less for a body and an entire lens set than you would for an M6 body. as a young photog, it’s lower price was the reason i chose it over the M6, which i simply couldn’t afford, but if i could i would, that’s just me. i like the feel of the leica better, and the MAJOR drawback to the contax g2 is the size and dimness of the viewfinder. it’s a small little bugger.
for the money you will pay however, i absolutely think it’s worth it. and autofocus, that was your question, sorry, ranting…..it’s really quite sharp, and very quick….but again, the viewfinder is so dim that at times, finding the brackets can be difficult, especially in low light…..
