wanted: BALCAR Pyrex Filter Glass Shell
|
For friend and colleague Jan Banning, I am looking for a BALCAR Pyrex Filter Glass Shell , approx. 10 centimeters long and with ø 6 cm. UV or Clear glass only.
While working in the studio together, it got broken :-(. Apparently Balcar is out of business, so any tips where to find such a protection glass would be MOST appreciated :-))). I can email a pic of the glass, if needed (don’t know how to attach a picture here). Thanks a lot in advance!

A simple Google search turns up several for sale on eBay and such.

Hi Bignose,
First thing we did when it happened…then nothing came up…will look into eBay again! Thanks a lot :-)))

Hmm interesting. I guess it depends on the keywords you use. I simply used your heading and got this: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=f&oq=BALCAR+Pyrex+Filter+Glass+Shell+&ie= UTF-8&rlz=1T4ADSA_enTW497TW497&q=BALCAR+Pyrex+Filter+Glass+Shell+&gs_upl=0l0l1l226082lllllllllll0&safe=active

Hi Bignose, thanks again for helping out…yes, we have seen these links too..some were outdated en some of the glasses offered were yellow tinted. The one we are looking for is a CLEAR or UV glass. Calumet co.uk was our last bet, but they don’t sell it any longer…So we are still on the look out! Best, Rosa.

What Balcar lamp model is it for? I may be going into New York City for some stuff this week. Could ask around, there’s a few shops that deal in older lighting gear and accessories. Might be a long shot, but you could call Celac Colvert at Keeble and Shuchat in Palo Alto, California. He’s a smart guy and seems to have an encyclopedic knowledge of obscure gear and where to find parts for such things.

Thanks a million for your tip, John. It’s for a Balcar Classic1500 Watt with E11 130V/250 Watt flashbulb. I have a pic of the glass needed here too, which I could also email.
|
and John, Jan Banning tried to log into Lightstalkers, to thank you for your effort personally, but somehow he can’t enter the discussion list…? He will call Celac Colvert in Pali Alto CA for sure (do you have a telephone number/ or Skype maybe?) And again, MOST appreciated if you would ask around in NY, really really great help! Best, Rosa

I will see what I can find out, it’s Fashion Week in NYC, and I will be going in a few times this week. At least maybe I get you the names of a few places you can try to contact. I asked a few people I know who use studio gear, but nobody seems to use or know much about Balcar. You could probably contact Celac through Keeble and Shuchat webpage. Don’t know if he can help directly, but he always seems to know who might have things.

OK, we will cross our fingers then ;-))). And will contact Celac for sure. Thanks again, John!

O.k., at least one of the companies I thought was a good prospect (Lens and Repro Equipt. Co.) has closed, however, I heard from Celac at Keeble, and he says " Balcar used to be imported into the US by the Calumet company. I believe it was basically a house line for them. We use an independent tech for Balcar repairs. If your friend knows what parts she needs I can find out what is available. Repairing strobes is a pretty hazardous business though… high voltage cans in there so be careful! You can give her my email if you want, celac@celac.net is probably the easiest". I’ll check around where opportunity permits, but that’s where things stand for now.

Hi John, Jan has found ONE glass (a little bit scratched) but all fine at Camtech! He now is looking for a replacement for a flash bulb, because he no longer trust the bulb itself (it fell on the ground…).I will tell Jan to contact Celac by email. Thank you SO much for your kind help and time… MOST appreciated :-))). I’ll keep you posted, if you like. Best, Rosa.

Sure, glad to help. Hope it all goes well.
