Wardak report from Danfung Dennis

Danfung Dennis, embedded with US military, central Afghanistan, april 4, 2009:

The 10 Mountain Division have moved into both provinces in force.
Airborne is the main base in Wardak, with combat outposts springing up
in the hotspot of the Jalrez Valley. Shank is the main base in Logar
and its expanding enormously- it will have an airfield and may become
the second largest base after Bagram.

They are methodically working their way south to the isolated district
of Kir War. It’s surrounded by high peaks and there are only three
ways in, making an ideal hideaway for 200 – 300 insurgents according
to military intel. The embed is quite interesting in that US troops
are pushing into areas they have never been before.
