|
Dear Fellows..
Yesterday in a small and private ceremony placed in Santiago, Chile the World Press Photo recognized after 34 years that Luis Orlando Lagos, a chilean photographer, was the author of the picture that was prized as WPP 1973.
Lagos, aka Chico Lagos, passed away last january at 94 years old. During his life, he worked as reporter for many newspaper in Chile and Venezuela during his exile after the military coup. He never recognized the picture when was asking for that. He did prefer protect his family against the military police force instead became a famous photographer.
Was the personal photographer of former president Salvador Allende for 20 years and believe in his social project.
His professional behavior shows us the path for a solid professional path.
My respect for his legacy and courage

indeed Rodrigo, indeed:
Here’s Lago’s surreal and remarkable photograph: a profoundly sad moment at an extraordinarily important crevice break moment in history….
September 11, 1973: moments before Allende’s death…..

For english readers, the cited article say that Lagos accord with the New York Times the payment of 12000 dolars for six pictures but he never get the payment. And for his situation, he never can tell he was the author of this pictures. A friend of him buyed a ticket to Venezuela so he can get out of Chile. The New York Times ignored the death of Lagos.
