Apparently, anything to do with umbrellas!

I don’t know, Walter. I rather liked the umbrella idea. It is not as though you said, “Let a smile be your umbrella,” which, I am sure, would have landed you a citation on this thread.

North Belfast 1993. The policeman to me: Of course you can talk to them (a mob burning an Irish flag), they don’t go after foreigner, don’t worry. I end up with a scarf on my fore head and spend three days in an hospital for a damage rib.

“In the Battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed.” W

I guess that’s not really a travel tip, unless one had been planning to go to Iraq for a vacation after 2003…

Some of the most misleading/nauseating travel promos: ‘Incredible India.’ – well it truely is incredible but not in the manner suggested. ‘The Land of Smiles,’ and ‘Visit Laos Year,’ just don’t ask about the disappearance of Sombath Somphone and other civil society/environmental activists.

“It’s just 50 cents to cross on the ferry, and there is always tons of room.”

“There are never road blocks on that highway, you’ll be fine.”

“The police don’t care if you change money on the black market.”

“Take the route I was telling you about, its a shortcut.”

“Why don’t you go somewhere for your vacation? You never get out of the house. You should go somewhere.” The people who say this, and you know who you are, are evil. They exist only because I cannot afford a hit man to remove their verminous presence from the face of the earth, although I do have to say that Mom has many strong points in her favor. She does great pineapple upside down cake, for instance.
