Yann Geffroy Photojournalism Award

Hello everyone,

just thought I’d pass this along in case anyone of you would like to participate.
This is open to all young photographers under 35 years of age.
Best to you all,

Since 1990, Grazia Neri PhotoAgency assigns an annual Photojournalism Award dedicated to Yann Geffroy, a member of the agency who sadly died when he was only 27 years old.
This prize is meant to remember the character and positive temper he showed when he came in touch with international photojournalism.
It is meant to underline his brilliant cleverness and sensibility and his creative and optimistic spirit, every year.

The prize is awarded to the reportage which, in the jurys opinion, shows, both in content and style, a positive solution to a problem (social, political, scientific, ecological, … ).
The jury is composed by Grazia Neri and some of her employees and assistants.
The prize is open to Italian and foreign photographers under 35 years old.

All applicants must submit their reportages (composed of 20 colours or B/W images), with personal data and biography, within January 31st 2006, to: AGENZIA GRAZIA NERI – Via Maroncelli 14 20154 Milano – ITALY.

We accept entries in the following formats:

*CDs with jpeg files in a medium resolution.
*Prints: minimum size 8×10 inch., maximum 12×16 inch.
*Slides: 35 mm (Leica format), resistant to handling and projection.
The reportages, which can be published or unpublished, must have explanatory notes and captions.

The prize, consisting of 1.550 Euros, will be assigned on March 21st 2006 at the Grazia Neri Agency offices.

In 2005 the jury awarded RICCARDO SCIBETTA for the colour-photography work “Ouragan”, which documents the experiment of a theatre laboratory inside the juvenile penal institution Malaspina in Palermo. His work completely fullfils the Prize requirements in describing a reality undergoing a positive transformation, where there is space for freedom and creativity. The theme is developed organically and expressed with a personal and contemporary photographic language.
The jury also assigned two honour-mentions, one to the photographer PATRICK ANDRADE/Polaris for the colour-photography work Iraq Olympics , which portrays the Iraqi olympic team, made up of ex-fighters, mentioned for its political topicality and for its description of a succesful attempt to preserve the pure and positive values of sports practice, and the other to the photographer RETO ALBERTALLI for the colour-photography work Rom Marriage, mentioned for its quality of immediacy in the communication of a reality and for its linguistic originality and modernity.

We take the chance to remind that the Yann Geffroy Award was established in 1990 to remember a member of the Agency who tragically died young and was full of creativity and positive qualities. For this reason the Prize is traditionally assigned to stories that are positive in the content as well as in the form.

  • All the reportages will be returned after the contest. Grazia Neri Agency will not be responsible for losses or damages occured during the delivery.
