Yet another copyright grab... :-(

Well, here’s yet another photo-sharing site that brazenly declares that all material you upload actually belongs to them to do with as they wish:

http://rmbr.com/

The relevant text from their Terms of Service is as follows:

You give us permission, for now and for the future, to use, copy, perform, display, and distribute your Customer Content and to prepare derivative works of, or incorporate into other works, such Customer Content, and to grant the same permissions to others. This permission is permanent and can’t be taken back. This permission is given to rmbr in return for use of the rmbr service, and not for any fee payable by rmbr, and shall continue to apply even after you cease using the rmbr service (e. g. so we can keep copies for our archives).

Very smart privacy policy as well. For example, no stupid promise NOT to share credit card info. Lovely.

Like, oh my God… I thought the whole “web 2.0/crowdsource” exploitation thing by mercenary, venture capitalist, assholes was sooo 2007.

I also wonder what developing, promoting, and capitalizing a ‘timesuck’ application such as this does for you in the after life. I’m guessing there might be some heat under the feet when the time comes. Even if one is wearing the latest Fluevogs.

Why not upload and archive every piece of shit photo you ever took at the largest possible file size. Tell them they are welcome to them. That will slow down the old server.
