Prestige Anniversary
|
Today is the fifth anniversary of the Prestige disaster, unfortunately little has changed since it happened . I would like to bring to your attention that Galicia is still unprotected against similar disasters which occur every 4-5 years. Pollution ,1970´s nuclear landfill in front of the coast, wildfires and overfishing are other problems which will only get worse over time. The Galician nationalists demand transfer of powers from the central goverment, in these matters, but this hardly seems to be a solution. Local ecological groups are afraid of raising their voices, fearing that their funds will be cut. Fishermen silently complain about duendling seafood captures, but are also afraid that this may be linked to increasing contamination, that may damage their image.
My thanks, to all those who helped during those trying times, and are helping against global warming.

Hi Roberto,
thanks for the information – all very worrying – keep up the good work!

Hi Colin,
Good to hear from you, thanks for your comments. Also, congrats on your Amazon Footprints project. It reminded me of French photojournalist Madeleine de Sinéty’s Uganda pictures that helped raise money for a water pump and a tuberculosis ward in the local hospital.
Food for thought for all of us, for the many things we take for granted but mean so much to those not so fortunate.
Best, Roberto
