Professional week at Visa l'Image

Hi All does anyone know the exact day the pro week starts at Visa? I have booked my flight but was not sure if it starts on the Wednesday 3rd Sept or Thursday 4th.

Main reason is I don’t want to miss the after party which I think is on the first Saturday in Sept. Last years was great.

Cheers

Mark

The VPI site says professional week is September 1 through 7. When I was there year before last, I was told that nothing happened the first couple of days during that week. However, one of the best events I went to was on the first afternoon…a reception at the Hotel Pams for the photographers whose work was being showcased. It was a great chance to meet them face to face and talk a bit, something that would not take place later in the week. I had to leave early and missed the final blow-out which was said to be great that year. And, yes, that year - as I think in all others - it was Saturday night.

Cheers all. I’ll be there from the 3rd to the 8th Neal last years party was awesome as well.

BTW Julia I found your request regarding words a few days ago in my bulk/spam folder. I will let you have words as soon as I get a chance to have a look at the link assuming it’s not too late.

sniff :’( i’m just spam. it’s ok Mark. i finished before deadline at 4.30 am on saturday. but thank you. i asked a couple of people knowing folks are busy. got some constructive stuff so it helped. but thank you, when i’ve done some reorganising, your thoughts would be welcome.

There’s not much going on in Perpignan before Thursday. Seems to me that extending it to a week is just a PR trick to fill up the hotels.

there are worse things in life than spending a week in Perpignan….also, you get more time to see all the expos. Trying to squeeze them all into three days is pretty intense.

I totally agree with Bruno, who, I might add, has been there every year for many years. Just go, chill out, go to the Cafe de la Poste (the hangout place) and look for people with DSLRs and SCARVES! Then just say hi, and proceed to expand your network (I realize that’s a terribly North American attitude!).

Of course there are worse places to stay than Perpignan (who wouldn’t want to spend weeks or months in the south of France), but the pack doesn’t arrive in town until Wednesday evening, that’s when the VISA ‘Who is here’-list expands from just 7 or 8 to forty or more pages. The ‘International Press Center’ in the Palais des Congrès is mostly empty until Thursday. So go ahead and go there earlier if you want to have a nice quiet time in lovely Perpignan, but don’t expect to make much professional progress in the networking/selfpromotion area before those three major days.

Jan It’s not just about networking and selfpromotion. It’s also about meeting up with old friends, having a beer or 5, chilling out, eating well etc.

Last year I was bemused by the aggresive attitude on display by some of the photographers during the formal/informal portfolio viewings. I’m going for all of the above but mainly to chill out. So chill out.

hi, been moving the last few days, just figured out how to get online at my new place. wifi! hallelujah! sorry Mark. yep, getting alerts, just wasn’t able to read ‘em.

really hoping to get to perpignan this year too. networking? it’s all about the hanging out with good folks and having a few beers. hmmm. maybe that’s why
i have no work? ;)

Well if you make it this year Julia I’ll buy you a beer.

I am not getting any notifications from LS. Probably a good thing actually.
