Puerto Rico

I know a few people on LS have been to Puerto Rico a few times, anybody have any advice for a first time visitor? Cheap places to stay, public transportation vs. rental car, cool things to check out, areas to avoid? I’ll be flying into San Juan spending a few days there, then I’m going to try to get out to the rain forest and some more remote areas for a couple days before returning to San Juan for my flight out.
