Pushkar Camel Fair
Does anyone know the exact dates for the camel fair? I know it is the week leading up to the full moon at the end of Nov.( I think the 24th). I saw somewhere that it is scheduled for the 21-24. But last time I went the camel trading was almost over before that last week of Kartik. So I was wondering if anyone has any detailed info from a reliable source? Thanks -Rad

Thanks to Dilip for that link. On that site they say 17th-24th of Nov. What I sort of got from last time was that the camels get there early, then come the horses, and then the pilgrims.
Just a little p.s. quote from the above website ‘Decoration items for Cattle, Camel and women, everything is sold together.’

Rad,
you’re right. i’d suggest arrival in pushkar earlier than the publicized dates. for one thing, the camels and livestock traders arrive about a week earlier, and there few tourists then…better access perhaps…prices are more reasonable etc. tourists and pilgrims arrive over the publicized 5-6 days… i believe the pilgrims peak on the last 2 days.

Thanks for the info. As you suggest Tewfic, I think I will try to get there around the 14th. That way I will get to see some of the build-up and some serious camel dealing. And then I will stay on till the pilgrims start crowding the city and then run. -Rad
