Qatar

Has anyone got any tips about things to do or see in Qatar. I have 12 hour wait untill my connecting flight. So I figure that I might aswell go and do something instead of waiting at the airport.

Cheers M

Hello Malin

Doha: first of all you’ll need an “occidental” passport and a credit card to get in (or more precisely out of the airport)

Doha: not much to see yet; its in process; you can go to the souks during the day, hotels or take pictures of the construction sites, all of it is within reach and you can take an airport cab they are cheap, for the cab to get moving from the parking lot you have to give him an address, preferably a hotel. Once in movement you can change your destination. The big malls (Villagio, City Mall, etc) are a nice place to see contrast (color, dress code etc)
For ideas on how to see the town have a look at Raymon Depardon’s latest book under “Dubai”.

PS loved your square pictures

I’m not sure when your stop over is but be aware that Ramadan starts on Thurdsay 13th of September so there will not be a lot happening at all. It is also 40+ degrees celsius there just now and a lot of places will shut down during the afternoon heat. A visa is around $30 I think.

Other options would be to go to one of the Western hotels (the Mariott is good for airport proximity) and pay for a day visit to use the pools, spa and restaurants etc. It may be expensive though. ‘City Centre’ Mall has a decent multiplex cinema…and an ice rink.

enjoy

i just got back from a 6 hr stop over in Doha and it was horrible! landed there at 1900 and left at 0130 and was really tired from my flights so i wasnt feeling up to taking any photos. I suggest you try a hotel and get some sleep and a shower. I guess it also depends what kind of time you are arriving/departing as to what kind of stuff you can shoot. The food is pretty bad too. Sorry, im sure i have filled you with excitement about you stopover. Hope you have a nice trip
