Work For Hire: Your Opinions

I was just hoping to get some of your opinions on the topic of work for hire (when the client owns the rights to your images). Most things that I’ve read have suggested that it is usually unneccesary and should warrant MUCH higher fees than a licensing agreement, but how much higher? Nobody really seems to give any suggestions on that. I recently seem to have priced myself out of an assignment with such tactics. I’m relatively green when it comes to negotiating photo assignments and don’t really know how common it is for a client to request such an arrangement. What do you guys think? What does it take for you to work under this type of contract. Do you recieve requests for work for hire often?
