The Rocky Mountain News is looking for photo editor candidates who can coordinate day-to-day photo and video coverage with other departments and can direct staff photographers to meet established deadlines and produce the highest quality and most complete print and online photo report possible. Must be able to make assignments and edit photos, including selection, sizing and cropping, to emphasize impact, content, essential detail, good taste and accuracy. Must coach and critique photographers on developing coverage plans for photo and video; on developing story ideas, sources and contacts; on developing and executing picture stories, video reports; must be able to advise photographers on best use of lighting, lens choices, video and still technology. Can work with photographers to conceptualize best approaches to still and video assignments. Can give routine feedback to photographers on quality and success of photo and video work.
Candidates must have a college degree in photojournalism or related field, or equivalent print or Web work experience. Minimum five years full-time at a metro newspaper, experience as a photographer, picture editor and/or videographer. Experience in supervising photographers and directing photo coverage strongly desired. Experience in conceptualizing, shooting and editing high-quality video documentaries for the Web, and top-notch still photojournalism coverage and stories required. Must be able to manage multiple priorities efficiently under daily deadlines.
Expert knowledge of cameras, lenses, lighting and photo and video-related technology and mastery of basic English grammar and spelling is essential.
PROBABLE SCHEDULE: Evening hours; work days and shifts will vary.
