As a photographer, I make photo documentaries about things that matter to me.
I have worked on long-term photo projects in Europe, Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, South-Sudan) and Indonesia.
In 2006 I was awarded the Dutch Zilveren Camera for my series Salto Vitale about Ethiopian youth circuses.
In 2009, Christian Caujolle (Agence VU) selected my series TB+, about tuberculosis patients in the Sudan savanna, for the international exhibition Stop TB.
While on the road, I taught photography in Kenya, Ethiopia and Indonesia to students and emerging photographers.
Currently, I teach photography and art history at the Dutch Fotovakschool
From 2007 until the present, I have worked on a personal photo project, called Kopi Susu (Coffee with Milk),
a visual memoir about my mixed descent (Dutch/ Indonesian) and my family history in the Dutch East Indies.
I am represented by photo-agencies Hollandse Hoogte, Amsterdam and Laif, Cologne.
