Running TimesHas the tagline: “The magazine for the serious runner.” Founded in 1977, it went through major redesign in 2008. Current editor-in-chief Jonathan Beverly, who took the helm in 2000, explains the distinction between the egalitarian Runner’s World and his own hard-nosed publication (both of which are published by Rodale Press). “There’s a difference in mentality: It’s about attitude and experience,” he says. “Running Times celebrates the difficulty of running, reaching out to experienced runners who have been running for at least a few years.” Runner’s World, on the other hand, addresses running as a means to an end, according to Beverly, with substantial editorial focus on the health and fitness-oriented aspects of the sport. RT’s readers seek to become better, faster runners. The mag has consciously avoided the something-for-everyone approach that signifies Runner’s World.
