About

I am a senior at the School of Journalism in the University of Montana, Missoula, studying Visual Journalism.

I spent the 2008 summer doing a Associated Press internship in CHicago. Iam also a member of NAJA.

The AP asked me back after I graduate in May 2009 to do a 6 month internship, they told me to pick three US cities, they gave me my top – San Fransisco : )

THE BALKANS: an intimate look at the people and places effected by post-war Bosnia.

GENERAL CONFERENCE: a two year chronicle of the culture surrounding the Salt Lake City Latter Day Saint General Conference that happens twice a year.

A SLICE OF PIE: a ongoing document of overlooked Americana; like squaredancing, county fairs, tailgating…………

Two Spirit: a Traditional and Spiritual Native American Gay, Lesbian, Bi, and Trans-gender groups throughout North America.

Two Spirit Medicine Man: I have been interviewing and documenting ceremonies with a Blackfeet Two Spirit Medicine Man.

I also work for Reznetnews.org, a Native American journalist news website.

Documentary Photography Online

I am a senior photo-j student at U of Montana’s Schoool of Journalism. Im working on my Senior Seminar paper, which will discuss how the internet, inexpensive server space and new media tools are opening up new territory for documentary projects, allowing for more in-depth coverage and exposure. Also, how many new documentary websites and blogs are popping up every other day.

I am curious to see how Lightstalkers are feeling about this? what documentary projects/photographers/websites are you finding interesting and useful….?

Im considering turning this into a Multimedia piece, but am a little lost on how to approach the visual aspect.

Any thoughts or comments will be highly appreciated.

Cheers,

Russel A. Daniels
