I am a young journalist looking to do some freelance work in of Central Africa over the next couple months. I was fortunate enough to receive a grant to travel to the area to present at a conference during July, and am hoping to utilize this opportunity to work on my international reporting skills.

I recently sent about 20 query letters out to mostly mid-sized to smaller publications, but am worried I won’t receive enough responses before my trip. Does anyone know of websites, news orgs., or publications that are receptive to on-the-spot reports from non-contracted journalists? Again, my area of focus will be Central Africa.
