About

Worked in Ethiopia on and off for three years as a photographer / Designer. It was hardly “reportage” though, I was just recording what was happening in front of me. A witness, to the ongoing effort to make strangers’ lives easier, to make lives last longer, a glimpse of people trying to make a difference.

Chickened out two years ago when I first saw a bus right in front of me go on fire at a riot in the city. Being a different colour and having a credit card, I left. All those people who treated me so well, I didn’t even say goodbye. Hadn’t been able to pick up the camera ever since.

Now living in Tokyo assisting commercial photographers as well as photojournalists visiting Japan. Watching how they become someone else’s voice. Voices that might otherwise never be heard.

I am available (as a fixer, translator, assistant) just about every day of the week. If you are in Tokyo and you need someone who can get you the pictures you are looking for, drop me a message, I might be able to help.

The whole “documentary photography” thing is stll kind of new to me. I have always taken pictures to please my subjects. My goal was never to get my pictures to be a feature in a magazine, but a photoframe in the living room or at the very best, inside someone’s top pocket.

Never really had a story I wanted to tell, I hope 27 isn’t too late to start learning this new, new language some of you speak so well.

Smile shutter from SONY.

Whereas in America, HP makes camera to help you look slimmer, here in Japan, SONY is bringing out a new function to their cybershots. It’s called “smile shutter”.

Using the face detection technology, the camera will detect when the subject smiles, and automatically hits the shutter.

One can even decide what level of smile you want the camera to detect, whether you want shutter to come down with a little smile, medium smile or big smile.

It also comes with a 3.5 inch touch screen LCD, and not a single button on the back.

It’s all in Japanese, but here it is:
