My name is Samuel Riera Méndez and I am currently Professor of Arts at the San Alejandro National Academy of Fine Arts in Havana, Cuba. Since 2012 I run an independent studio, RIERA STUDIO, where I dedicate myself to promoting and exhibiting modern art. RIERA STUDIO is an independent space for dialogue, critique, and collaboration from an alternative artistic perspective which currently confronts Cuba. Additionally I am office director for the ART BRUT PROJECT CUBA rooted inside RIERA STUDIO. Lastly I am engaged as Professor of Graphic Arts and Photography for the tourism agency PARADISO.
Projects realized: In 2003 I was a founding member of the group Galería Postal. In 2005 I was awarded the Tamarind Institute Scholarship by the Tamarind Institute, Abuquerque, New Mexico, dedicated to lithographic studies. In 2005 I was also awarded the Grand Prize of Graphics by the Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional and the Spanish Embassy in Cuba. I have participated in more than 100 collective exhibitions in Cuba and abroad. Today I exhibit works in the permanent collections of the Kubanische Museum der Schönen Künste (Museum of Cuban Fine Arts) in Vienna, Austria, and in private collections in Spain, Denmark, the United States, Austria, Japan and Cuba.
