SEEKING EQUIPMENT FOR RWANDAN PHOTOGRAPHER
The Business Council for Peace (Bpeace, http://www.bpeace.org) is an international network of businesspeople who volunteer to help women in Afghanistan and Rwanda build businesses.
One of the 21 associates Bpeace is working with in Rwanda is Ange Mukankuranga. Prior to the genocide, Ange was a primary school teacher with a husband and two children. Then her husband passed away; two of her siblings and both of her parents were killed in the genocide. At that point Ange and her children walked from Kigali to a refugee camp in a northern province of Rwanda where they stayed for three months. Today, Ange supports and cares for her two children, two orphans, her sister, and a young relative of her late husband’s. When she started to put her life back together, Ange considered her options and decided to become a professional photographer.
Ange now runs a small photography and video business out of her home, but her dream is to have her own studio with her own equipment. Ange is unique in that she is one of the only women in this field in Rwanda. Her most critical needs at the moment are equipment and training in digital photography. Bpeace member and professional photographer, Paula Lerner, is donating two camera bodies (Canon D60 and 10D). To make this package complete, we are looking for the following items:
- Zoom lens such as EF Canon 28-70, f/2.8
- Fixed lens such as EF Canon 50mm f/2.5
- Compact Flash memory cards (1 or 2 GB, or larger)
- Back up batteries and charger
- Canon compatible flash, such as a Canon 550 EX (or more recent)
Used equipment is welcome as long as it is in good working condition. If you have equipment to donate or want to make a donation to Bpeace to help Ange purchase the equipment, please contact the Bpeace Program Director in New York, Marla Gitterman, at mgitterman@bpeace.org.
Please feel free to forward this message to anyone who may be interested, and many thanks.
