Sharón Steinmann is an award-winning photographer based in Colorado. She recently returned to the United States after freelancing in Venezuela for more than a year where she ultimately photographed the presidential election. She worked for 13 years at newspapers in California, Texas and Washington State. Most recently she was on staff at the Houston Chronicle. Clients include The Associated Press, EFE, The Southern Poverty Law Center, The Ford Foundation, The Dallas Morning News and ProPublica.
She has documented many stories of international impact, including the AIDS epidemic in Honduras and the displacement of Hurricane Katrina victims. Her photographs of the aftermath of Hurricane Ike were part of a package chosen as a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. She graduated form the University of California at Berkeley with a B.A. in anthropology. Sharon speaks fluent Spanish and basic conversational Hebrew. She is currently based in Boulder, Colorado and is available for assignments in the U.S. and abroad.
