Shooting 5D and 1D
|
Is anybody shooting a 5D and a 1D side by side? I’m just trying to figure out how much of a hassle it would be to work with two cameras that have different controls + batteries.
I have a 5D and a 20D at the moment but I’m retiring the 20D – debating between a 40D or a used mkII.
I’ve had some reliability issues with the 20D in the rain, so I’m tempted to go for something more sturdy, but would like to hear from someone who’s shooting both cameras side by side.
Cheers,
Olivier

I’m shooting the 5D and the Mark III and you get used to switching back and forth very quickly. Though they both have fairly big differences You know the difference between the two when you pick them up. After shooting for a short time you quickly learn the differences and they become second nature. There was a learning curve but it’s very short. Mine was a bit long coming over from Nikon and learning Canon all over again on top of learning two cameras. It is a solid pair to shoot with and I can pretty much cover just about any situation with the pair. I think it was the best decision I’ve made since getting into the industry. Good luck which ever way you go.

I am using the 5D and 1DMK111 as well, it is an excellent combination. I have the extra battery grip added to the 5D which allows approx. 1400 shots, the 1DMK111 approx. 2000 shots. Both camera’s are generally in manual mode so I setup the wheels to operate the same way for aperture and shutter speed.

I think the biggest hassle, especially if you travel, is two different batteries and two battery chargers. I used both for a while ended up going with just 20D then just 5D because traveling with two chargers was a PITA.
