Simon Klingert is a freelance photojournalist specialized on documenting wars and armed conflicts. He is a contributor to the photo agencies actionpress in Germany and Zumapress in the United States.
Born in 1982 in Germany, his first assignments in 2004 and 2005 led him to cover the mideast conflict in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, documenting the various effects of the occupation on Palestinian life as well as Israeli military operations, includung the Israeli disengagement from the Gaza Strip
In 2007, after completing an embed with U.S.- Forces in Afghanistan, Simon worked as an editor and teacher for Ainaphoto, an Afghan Media NGO in Kabul, training young Afghans in photography.
In early 2008, Simon set out to cover the counterinsurgency campaign waged by the U.S.- Military in Iraq, embedding with various units in Baghdad and Diyala province fighting against a multitude of insurgent groups.
In 2009, Simon graduated from the university in Nuremberg- Erlangen with a degree in political science. He has just come back from a five months- long trip to the frontlines in Afghanistan, where he covered the fight against the Taliban- dominated insurgency.
He has been published in various domestic and international news media. Simon’s images have been displayed as part of the exhibition »Conflict and Contrast« in London in 2008, which was hosted by the Bristish Ministry of Defense.
