Singapore Questions..

The day job is sending me to Singapore in a few days, and since my stay is going to be roughly 6 weeks, all of my camera gear is coming with me. (hblad, m6, 40d and the lens armada)

My questions pertain more to film..

Where is your favorite place to get film?
(Efke/Ilford, etc..) Deciding if I want to bring my own film

Where is a good lab for E6 and B&W?
(probably the same place where I’ll find good film, eh!?)

Should I even consider finding a place to get chemicals to do my own b&w over there? (heard it was difficult to find?)

Besides not being able to chew gum, and spit, what else would you suggest I not do?

Thanks for your suggestions as always!

Hi Joel:

So you are going to spend 6 weeks in Singapore… Lucky you!!!

It is a great city!

For film and all related to photo equipment check the Peninsula Plaza

Hell you can even think about buying something there… the prices are amazing!

Good luck.

Hi Joel,

You can chew gum, its just that you can’t buy it here in Singapore.

As for good developing shops, for E6 a good place is Fotohub (http://www.fotohub.com/v2/index.php) at Beach Rd, film are also available there. They even sell them as a package with developing at a lower price. As for B&W film, I normally get it from Cathay Photo at Peninsula Plaza or Ruby at Peninsula Shopping Centre, right across from Peninsula Plaza. You can do a map check of the places mentioned at www.streetdirectory.com.

You might want to do your own B&W developing. Chemicals are available, though not a lot of choices.

Have fun!!

My advice is to not drink anything with ice in it.

Got it…

1) no ice.

2) bring my friends packs of gum, but don’t sell it to them.

3) consider bringing my changing bag and Patterson tank

4) get everything at Ruby Photo (do they sell gum?)

any thing else?

thanks for the tips so far! keep ‘em coming.

Err…. The advice about the ice should be taken with a shovel of salt. The cleanliness of the food and water in Singapore is one of the best in the world. You can even drink directly from the tap, trust me. As for the ice, it is also very clean, so not much chance of getting diarrhea.

I’m with you Then Chih, Singapore is one of the most clean places where i have been!!! It is comparable with Helsinki!

You could even eat from the sidewalk…

Hey Andy are you sure you were talking about Singapore when you said that about ice???

No worries at all!
Cheers,

Armando
