skype virus!! anyone?

I have been having different people sending me requests to add them to my skype, people I have no idea who they are, and along a weird message and a link. It looks very similar to those spam emails we usually get, but different messages of course.. For the past week I’ve had 5 or 6 requests, same kind of messages! Is anyone else also getting those??

Yeah I’ve had some, it’s not really a virus, just spam. If you don’t know the person, just use the “block this person” function to stop them ever being able to contact you again….

Well Ben, there is a link with the message, did not open it though… and I was wondering if they got the skype address from LS (although your skype address is confidential here)… I remember LS community agreed that most of us were being spammed because they took our emails from LS too!!

“For the past week I’ve had 5 or 6 requests” Count yourself lucky. I have woken up to 5-6 overnight! Don’t seem to be getting to many now though… but they are still coming through.

Skype really needs to tighten up their security. I have tried all options myself but I cant get rid of these random messages and requests from people either. I open my skype and am greeted to 4-5 of those requests everyday!

Trust me, this is not a virus but just really really bad spam. Good luck in resolving it and let us know what you did to completely get rid of it.

oh mmm.. I must be lucky, they stopped, I think I scared them off ha!
I am not going to try to solve it, I will just block and ignore.. It is just annoying we have to deal with hotmail spam and the millions I am winning everyday and the skype spam and people wanting to get to know me more there and show me some link!
Anyway good luck to you ..

It’s just Skype spam. I’ve been receiving it for over two months now. On the latest version of Skype, when I receive such a request or message, you can immediately block the user and a new window pops up asking if you want to Report abuse from the user. Click on that and Skype usually looks into it and deletes the account.

I wish Twitter would do the same! I get at least one spammer following me per day… I know one can reply to @spam, but it’s a hassle for every one.

I´ve had some people just send me a message out of the blue, and I usually ask them who they are and what they want before going ballistic, though I feel that their behavior is invasive. The last one was a Chinese fellow who said he wanted to practice English, though he said he didn´t want me to see his picture. Odd, but I have had some requests to practice English in the past. Don´t really have the time for it, but sometimes I chat for a few minutes and send them on their way.

Skype could actually be a great instrument for such things, though people will have to hone their patience while listening to their language being butchered. Part of the learning curve . . .

I’m not worried about this, simply block them if so desired, you are on the Skype directory after all, people can find you. What interests me more is if there are any other Skype security concerns….. I have heard rumors before about being able to get into your HD through it, that kind of thing. Anyone heard similar things?

And no I’m not paranoid! Fact is the person I heard it from (a fair while back now) can be somewhat convincing and thought it hilarious that his friend could actually do it. Can’t quite remember what our conversation was about at the time & why he brought it up. I really haven’t given it much of a thought since, but you just don’t know in this day & age, do you? Got me thinking now, shit!!
