I love these – something about them works so well. Lacking mental space to compose a real thought but wanted to say – really nice.

Cheers Candace and Simon – great that you like them.

lovely work Colin, great concept. I can relate having a 7 year old and a 3 year old who watch a little too much TV while their freelance parents work in their home offices. Beautiful portraits, Im sure your daughter will appreciate them when she is older.

Aren’t u worried about that these images can fall in the hands or on the screen of any pedophile surfers? the uncontrived sensuality played by your daughter that you framed so perfectly, unfortunately might be very appetizing for the disgusting minds of these people, i think; is your purpose artistic, documentary, commercial?

Thanks for the comments Adam – television happens when someone gets spaced out, child or parents. Hope life is treating you well in sunny Mexico.

Hi Dana – I think many things are happening in the pictures, but then many things happen in childhood – it’s complex and photography should reveal that. I can’t control everyone who views these images, or the preconceptions they impose on the images – just as I can’t control who looks at Isabel and her friends in the park or playground.
There are disgusting people out there but I don’t think our behaviour or attitudes to childhood or life in general should be determined by a very small minority – if we did that, these pictures, indeed no pictures would be allowed to be shown, children wouldn’t be allowed on the street and control of all aspects of behaviour would reach Talibanesque proportions.

Such comments about pedophiles and children photo were written too for a great favorite photographer of mine Sally Mann. If I recall right she said in an interview “the photographs aren’t sick, people have sick minds..” (pardon me I don’t mean anything about Dana’s comment.. just pointing a situation here)
Colin I enjoyed your work :) it certainly has a personal touch

Thanks Nikos – glad you liked the work, especially the personal touch. You’re right about Sally Mann – she got absolutely massacred for her family pictures, but at the same time she has suggested that it is problematic having pictures out there in the public sphere – but they are brilliant pictures and the world would be a lesser place without them.

Very thougth provoking work Colin, well done. I think we should all revel in our childrens childishness, kids being kids is one of the greatest thing in the world to see.
|
thanks Nathan – you’re right about our children’s childishness. Another of my favourite photographers is Wendy Ewald, who captures childhood from all angles. Good luck with whatever you do in Japan.
