If you are interested in journalism and South Asia, please come to the SAJA Convention, June 20 (Friday) at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism and June 21 (Saturday) at Columbia University.
http://www.sajaconvention.org/
I’m involved with planning this event and have been trying to expand its photography offerings. There is a photography workshop on Friday afternoon, led by Lightstalkers Annie Tritt and Adam Huggins. On Saturday, Adam will make a presentation about his brilliant multi-media piece for the NYTimes on the New York manhole covers that are made in India.
There are two days of panels and workshops about various journalism topics, as well as issues relevant to SAJA, like the recent political crisis in Pakistan.
Other fun things: there’s a special screening of the movie “Brick Lane” on Thursday night; on Friday we’ll have a reception at the new NYTimes building; on Saturday there’s a big banquet and awards ceremony; and on Sunday morning there is a brunch with comics Dan Nainan and Dhaya Lakshminarayan.
Cost is $130 for SAJA members, $160 for non-members (note that you can join SAJA right now for $20 and then pay the lower fee).
