My name is Stacia, and currently, I am living in the Northwestern Region of Thailand with a hill tribe named Karen (pronounced Ga-Rian) in the village of Baan Kiew Sua. I am currently working as a volunteer English teacher at Kew Sewa School which is a school of 98 children and home to approximately 20 children, ranging in ages from pre-school thru sixth grade. Volunteering as a teacher, however, was not my main purpose in coming here.
While I am here I am working on a project which is called All God’s Beautiful Children – Thailand. This project is a compilation of photographs of the children in this and surrounding villages as they go about their daily lives. Not only am I photographing these children, but I am also writing about each child and each photograph individually, so that once I am able to put everything together into a book, it will not just be blank images of unknown faces, but a photo journey which will take my readers right into the lives of these children, allowing them to see and understand all the beauty of these children as I have been fortunate enough to experience.
I will be living with the Karen tribe for one year, after which I will return to the United States to release the book for sale. Every cent of profit from All God’s Beautiful Children – Thailand will be returned back to these and other children in the rural areas of Thailand, for this is not my story, it is theirs, and thus, this story is not for me to profit from, but solely for the benefit of the children.
With the money raised, All God’s Beautiful Children will be working with charities already established in Thailand who aid in the education of the children in these rural areas. The money will be used for things such as increasing the number of teachers in these small villages as well as assisting in teacher training to elevate the level of education these children are receiving. Money will also be donated for the purposes of scholarships for children from elementary, high school and college, so that money is never a reason a child is unable to continue his or her education.
Aside from donating money to charities already in place, All God’s Beautiful Children has a goal to rebuild the dormitories of these boarding schools, as what these children are currently living in is so far below the standards that any child should ever have to experience.
