The Monitor is a 50,000 circulation Daily/Sunday newspaper in the heart of the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas and we have an immediate opening for an experienced and enthusiastic photojournalist to join our award winning staff.
The successful applicant should know how to use digital photo equipment, location and studio lighting, photo editing software (including Photoshop and Photo Mechanic) and should also know how to transmit photographs from outside locations. Knowledge of multimedia production (SoundSlides) and video (iMovie and Final Cut Pro) would be a plus.
Besides breaking news and feature stories we do a lot of community journalism and, of course, sports. We cover professional basketball (NBA D-League Vipers), ice hockey (RGV Killer Bees), arena football (RGV Dorados) and baseball (Edinburg Coyotes) along with all local high schools sports and our local college’s teams (University of Texas-Pan American).
We offer a competitive salary and benefits package including medical, dental and a 401K program. Canon digital equipment and an Apple MacBook Pro are provided along with access to pool gear. The successful applicant should have a reliable car, an acceptable driving record and be willing to work evening and weekend shifts.
