studio304 photography slideshow in Brooklyn
|
This is an invitation and call for entries to our (almost) monthly Studio 304 photographers’ slideshow in Brooklyn. Thanks to everyone who came out to our first show on Jan. 25th, and we hope you can make it out again to the next installment on Thursday, March 8th. We’re planning this Brooklyn-based photo-community gathering to be even smoother and more fun than the last.
Drinks (and last-minute adjustments) at 7pm (BYOB, please) and slideshow at 8pm.
In order to keep the slideshow to a decent length we’re limiting space to 22 photographers. This time we ask that photographers be present to show their work. We had some great absentee submissions (from all over the world, thanks, lightstalkers) last time, but we want to emphasize the local community nature of this event. It’s fantastic to see new work no matter where it’s from, but a slideshow is way more interesting with the photographer present. Also…we want to meet you in person.
If you are interested in presenting work, please email Mara Catalan at info@studio304.org to reserve your spot in the slideshow. Please get in touch with Mara soon if you wish to show work. We’re asking that images be submitted on CD by Sunday March 4th so that we have time to put together the evening’s presentation. Submission guidelines and mailing/drop-off address are provided below.
Submission guidelines:
-25 photos or less
-photos should be JPEGs with pixel dimensions of 1024×768 (be it horizontal or vertical, under Image Size in Photoshop just make sure the longest side of the photo is 1024 pixels)
-filenames should contain numerical sequence and photographer’s name (01Catalan.jpg, 02Catalan.jpg)
-please contact Mara to reserve your slot in the show before sending images
Mailing/Drop-off
During business hours you can drop CDs in a special drop box at the DESIGN STATION in The Internet Garage on Bedford (218 Bedford Ave., near N.6th street). Just ask for the Studio 304 slideshow drop box. Or you can mail your CD to Studio 304. The address is:
Mara Catalan
Studio 304
304 Boerum St. #42
Brooklyn, NY 11206
You may also drop your CD off at Studio 304 during business hours. Just go to the above address and ring buzzer number 17. This is the building office, and you can drop your CD there from 9am-5pm

Here goes the last call. see you all tonight! xxx

If you are in NY and aren’t on your way already get your ass in gear over to the slide show. Salud! Once again wish I could be there… felicidades Mara for donating your time and energy and precious NY square footage to the photo community. Hope all goes well.

Thanks for the show, Mara. Though my last name was mispelled ("Paison") and my pix were way oversaturated in the projection which was probably my fault anyway, the slide show went smoothly with lots of free drinks and finger food. I’m sorry I had to sneak out during “half-time;” I didn’t want to get home too late. Thanks again and cheers to Studio 304!

I’d love to participate in the next one. I don’t live in Brooklyn (eastern PA) but technically, I spent 5 years of my childhood there, so does that count?
Sounds like a great event…
|
Btw, Mara, could you please list the names of the participating photographers here? I would like to view everyone’s portfolios again in a leisurely way on my laptop if I can find them online. Tnx.

Dear friends. I want to thank you all for coming and participating in studio304 slide show. Once again it was a great success.!!!! We had some fabulous photographers showing their work and many new faces came to enjoy the screening. My feed back this far is very positive and everyone wants to keep the slide show going. I think this is a great idea. Photography becomes available for a greater audience

Mara
This really is a wonderful idea, and I want to thank and congratulate you for pulling it off. It’s rare in New York (and I’m from da Bronx) to find that sense of community among photographers. It’s great to see work, and meet people on this site. Btw, your daughter Luna was so funny & cute “not another one” !!
peacexxx

It was a great evening—good company, food and drink, and good images. By the time my turn came around, little Luna, who had been doing one-handed cartwheels to impress the crowd, had endured just about enough of the photography.

I was one of that private email writers and you are right, we should post our THANKS here, so others will come in the future. It was a great evening, the lenght of the hown sequences were just right, the number of ‘pieces’ was just right, too, and the overall quality was very good. I did not know anybody there and met very interesting photo-community-people, all in all, I enjoyed it very much and I hope this will become a kind of regular event. Thanks, Mara, for putting this together !!
