GalleryRecent PostTravel to Afghanistan for novices.Afghanistan : Women Making Change, April 12, 2011 – April 21, 2011. In March 2005, I traveled with the Global Exchange delegation “Women Making Change” to Afghanistan for an Independent Study Project in photography (I was a photography student at Arizona State University.) I returned to Afghanistan in March 2007, as a volunteer for the NGO Afghans4Tomorrow, teaching English and photographing in the A4T girl’s schools. I highly recommend this organization as they provide a guide, translator, security and a place to stay, usually a guesthouse located in a neighborhood in Kabul where you have access to local people. Najib the guide got us access to places that we simply would not have been able to go to on our own (note: this was my first time traveling outside of the U.S.) For example, we were driving by Rhabia Balkhi maternity hospital and asked if we could stop. Najib went inside and asked if we could visit. The hospital administrator allowed us in to talk and take photographs. Najib is available for hire by individual photographers, filmmakers and projects as well. He can be reached at: Keywords |
